The purpose of this page is to provide some idea of what was involved in blowing glass before the modern small art studio idea took off in the 1960's. Using quotes from various books and reports of methods I have heard, the early colonial factories and more modern production shops are explored.
The most amazing thing, to me, is the large number of people needed to keep a glass factory going in the days before natural gas heated furnaces.
