It is important to recognize the efforts of Doctor Doug Craig who encountered this wreckage in the 1960's as an apprenticing geologist and pestered both the American and Canadian governments for over 30 years until his persistence and cold hard logic finally got governments action to locate and survey the site. 

Dr. Craig returned to the sight along with Canadian Military and Environment Canada investigators on August 11, 1997. At this time the extent of his discovery was evident in more complete detail since the snows had receded in intervening years to reveal the entire wreckage. On this occasion they encountered live explosives, live 50 cal ordinance, detonators and what have you. The report of this visit is available on Doug Davidge's report.

Unfortunately, following this investigation the site became "re-discovered" and was frequented by many with access and means to remove items or modify records to their own advantage. Dr Craig would have been disappointed by their behaviour had he lived long enough to learn of it. We could all strive to be as focused on facts, while at the same time being as attracted by a good mystery as he was.
